laqad ḥaqqa l-qawlu ʿalā aktharihim fahum lā yu'minūna
7. Already the word [i.e., decree] has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe.
-
innā jaʿalnā fī aʿnāqihim aghlālan fahiya ilā l-adhqāni fahum muq'maḥūna
8. Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads [kept] aloft.
-
wajaʿalnā min bayni aydīhim saddan wamin khalfihim saddan fa-aghshaynāhum fahum lā yub'ṣirūna
9. And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see.

22. And why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned?
-

29. It was not but one shout, and immediately they were extinguished.
-
yāḥasratan ʿalā l-ʿibādi mā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūna

waāyatun lahumu l-arḍu l-maytatu aḥyaynāhā wa-akhrajnā min'hā ḥabban famin'hu yakulūna
33. And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat.
-

47. And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allāh has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allāh had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."
-

falā yastaṭīʿūna tawṣiyatan walā ilā ahlihim yarjiʿūna
50. And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.
-
wanufikha fī l-ṣūri fa-idhā hum mina l-ajdāthi ilā rabbihim yansilūna
51. And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.
-

52. They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."
-

What Surah Yaseen is about
A town, its messengers and a man who ran. Ya Sin opens with two letters and an oath by the wise Quran that the Messenger is on a straight path (Quran 36:1–4). At its centre is a town to which messengers were sent, and a man who came running from the far side of the town to urge his people to follow them (Quran 36:13–27).

Signs of life after death
Dead land, night and day, the sun and the moon. It points to signs of life after death: dead land brought to life, the night drawn away from the day, the sun running its course and the moon’s phases (Quran 36:33–40). It ends by asking who can give life to bones that have crumbled, and answering that the One who made them the first time will (Quran 36:78–83).
